Polo Equipment
Just to confirm rules on the new polo equipment!
The Yellow Revenge Kayaks are only to be paddled on the river for polo use or training under no circumstances are they to be used for general use or river trips. This applies to the rest of the polo equipment - buoyancy aids, paddles & spray decks which are only to be used whilst playing/training polo.
To ensure we get maximum use from the paddles please try not to throw them when getting out of the water, as this would avoid paddle chips.
It would be appreciated if everyone at the club could enforce this rule whatever age you may be.
James Soutar
Polo requires excellent teamwork and promotes both general canoeing skills as well as a range of other techniques unique to the sport. Two teams each with five players on the pitch at any one time (and up to three substitutes) compete to score goals in their opponent's net which are suspended 2 meters above the water. The ball can be thrown by hand, or flicked with the paddle. Pitches can be set up in swimming pools or any stretch of flat water. Boats are specifically designed for Polo and are shorter (3m) than typical kayaks which gives them fantastic maneuverability. Paddles are very light weight and designed with both pulling power and ball control in mind. Body protection, helmets and faceguards are all compulsory. There are internationally agreed rules for the game, World and European Championships are held every two years. Great Britain is one of the world's foremost nations, with the British men the current World Champions. Within the UK there is a National League structure, with categories for Open, Women's and Youth competitions, with many regional events held throughout the year.

Taunton Canoe Club at the moment have a good following
of polo players who turn up at St James Street Pool in Taunton on a regular
basis. We meet at the club house just before 8.30pm to load the van with the
boats, Pool time is 9 - 10pm on most Thursday nights (see the calendar for
exact dates). Due to the size of the pool we have to play 4 a side.
We have played summer tournaments on the river with Sutton Bingham and also Wellington Kayak Club where we compete for the Pete Collin's memorial trophy.
