Sailing Craft sinks on the Tone

On the 23rd September, a small sailing craft sank on the Tone at French Weir.

An immediate rescue was put in place, with members of Taunton Canoe Club being at the centre of the salvage operation.

Luckily no-one was hurt, and it was possible to repair the craft.

All joking and "spin" aside, this was a real situation, which occurred at the Waterways Festival.
People are involved in all sorts of hobbies and interests, and when an accident happens, it can be very upsetting when it involves your pride and joy.

It was great that Taunton Canoe Club were able to help in this situation.

Below is a letter received from the Treasurer of the Tone Valley Model Boat Club.

"Dear Colin,

Could I on behalf of one of our club members (Harold Grabham) thank your club members very much for their help in retrieving his model boat which sunk in the river at the Inland Waterways Festival at French Weir on the 23rd of September.

A special thank you to Ash Woodward who was brave enough to dive down and bring up the boat, which would have been a very expensive loss to Harold.

You may like to know that the boat has been dried out and had slight repairs made and is now ready to sail again, once again thanks very much to your members and I am sending two photos of the rescue.

Yours

Roger Durbin.
